This qualification provides a comprehensive foundation to understanding Pilates Matwork covering the principles of Pilates. It offers a general understanding of Pilates technique and the biomechanics of the body.
This course is designed for people who would like to find out more about Pilates before embarking on a teacher training course.
This course is run over 4 days plus an assessment and is a total of 20 hours tutor lead sessions and 45 guided hours of learning. It is made up of a combination of practical and theory sessions and runs alongside the Pilates Matwork Diploma. You will not be required to take this part of the course again if you return to do the Pilates Matwork Diploma.
You do not need to have any previous experience in Pilates to join this course. However, it helps if you have been active in some form of sport or fitness. You will need to complete a medical form.
Candidates who take the Pilates Matwork Foundation Course will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the following broad areas;
Exercise and fitness knowledge covering bones and joints, muscles and muscle actions, cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems, components of fitness, principles of training and models of behaviour change
Basic principles of Mat Pilates
Identify and demonstrate 15 Pilates Foundation Exercises
Recognise good postural alignment
Unit 1: Assessment 1 - Externally Assessed Theory Paper
Unit 2: Assessment 2 - Internally Assessed Worksheets
Unit 3: Assessment 3 - Internally Assessed Lesson Plan
Unit 4: Assessment 4 - Postural Analysis Worksheet
